The Oh So Predictable Plot Ruined “Rebel Wife”

I was looking forward to a journey into the South with “The Rebel Wife” but the predictable plot and stock characters were just too unbelievable to be enjoyable.  I might have been able to overlook the simplistic writing had the widow and main character, Augusta, not been made to be so pathetic.  Although historically, most women of that time were not in charge of their family’s money, I couldn’t get past that she knew nothing of her family finances, and had to be told by a slave working on her property.  The writing was not descriptive, and I was not impressed.  I couldn’t recommend it.
