“The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane” was devastatingly boring despite focusing on the mesmerizing time in America’s history, the Salem witch trials. Connie was a bland protagonist who did little more than find clues and explain them to the reader. Her mother, who calls Connie from time to time, had no purpose other than to provide a platform for Connie to obtain information about the old family house Connie is asked to clean out and sell one summer. The novel switched between present day and the 1680s, but halfway through the book the author hadn’t presented an exciting storyline in either time frame. I felt myself grinding away to locate a plot other than Connie finding a secret key in a bible. The novel and its characters were emotionless and flat, and there simply was not enough happening to make me want to keep reading. I would avoid this one.
